I have the Grizzly GO727 all though I have modified it alot in its stock form it is a good little mill a little larger than the mini mill and it is both horizontal and vertical to boot. The typical Sieg X2 mini-mill [HF 44991, Grizzly G8689, Micro-Mark & others] has a lot of backlash in the Z-axis.In my case it was .053-inches, which was almost a full turn of the fine-adjust knob. I heard that putting a shim behind the rack on the column would help by causing it to mesh tighter with the pinion gear in the head.

At this point simply adjust the column to read zero at the bottom and 1/2 of your reading at the top. At this point all that's left to do is to tighten the nut and double check the tramming.
